Regional Competitions

Regional Relays

We compete against athletes from other Centers within our Region (South East) – Algester, Balmoral, Beenleigh, Browns Plains, Jimboomba, Mt. Gravatt, Redlands, Springwood, Sunnybank and Wynnum Manly- at Regional Relays and Regional Championships.

There are 2 Regional Meets (Regional Relays and Regional Championship) for Under 7 to Under 17, held each season. No special qualifications are necessary to enter the Regional championships, just the desire to compete and naturally the usual spirit of having fun predominates.

Regional Relays (U7-U17) are held in November and Regional Championships are held in February- see Calendar of Events for more details.

Athletes, qualifying at Regional Relays are eligible to compete at State Relays in the Under 9 to Under 17 age groups and from Regional Championships in the State Championships in the Under 9 to Under17 age groups.

Relays days give an opportunity for all children to participate in a team activity. We feel that there is a need to foster a “team spirit” in our athletes and relay events are really the only opportunity we have for competing as a team. We’d like to see all of our registered athletes, or at least as many as possible competing at Regional Relay day. As it’s early in the season, some of the coaching during the first few weeks will be given in relay training.

Relays include both track and field relays. In field relays, athletes compete in a team in a selection of events, where a “team” score is the sum of 2 individual performances. Athletes will be paired based on their performances on the day. Track relays are –

Under 7          4 x 70m Shuttle       and 4 x 100m Shuttle

Under 8          4 x 70m Shuttle       and 4 x 100m Shuttle

Under 9-10     4 x 100m Circular   and Swedish Relay

Under 11-13 — 4 x 100m Circular   and 4 x Medley (2 x 200m, 1 x 400m, 1 x 800m)

Under 14-17    4 x 100m Circular   and Swedish Relay

A maximum of 5 events may be entered by the athlete.

At Regional Relay Day, athletes may compete in a higher age group and girls can compete in boy’s events, but no athlete can plan to compete in the same event neither in 2 age groups nor in more than 5 events on the day. Parents should note that this is an all-day competition and canteen facilities are available.

At Regional Relay Day, the first 3 placed teams in each event (except Under 7’s & Under 8’s) qualify to compete at State Relays. State Relays nominations fees are paid for by the Centre.

Regionals Relays will be held on Sunday, 10th November 2024 at Sheldon College

nominations close Saturday, 26th October 2024
Cost is $5/event

All nominations for Regional Relays are be lodged & paid for at the club (not through Results HQ.)

State Championships

This event is the season’s climax for our Little athletes and applies to those in the age group of Under 9 to U17 who qualify at the Regional Championships.

This season (2024-2025) State Championships will be held at QSAC Nathan  from the 21st to the 23rd March 2025

Under 13 athletes, successful at the State Championships may be selected to represent Queensland at the Australian Teams Championships. They are joined by 4 representative Under 15 athletes who compete in the Pentathlon competition. These championships are hosted by a different State each year. We have been represented on many occasions at this level.

NOTE: This event will not be cancelled under any circumstances as competition is on an all weather track. Under 7 and 8 age groups do not proceed from Regional level competition to compete at State Championships or State Relays.

State Relays

To qualify for State Relays, teams must achieve a 1st, 2nd or 3rd placing at Regional Relays.

As far as practicable, the team that competes at Regional Relays and qualifies will be the team that competes at State Relays. In cases where qualifying athletes will be unavailable for the State Relay Day, the Centre Manager should be advised immediately so 4hat replacements can be sought.
